In the past few weeks I've gotten three new toys!
I have a Roomba! I loves it muchly. The hardwood floors in my apartment have been driving me crazy. I'm used to carpet which doesn't show the daily grit and cat hair as easily. And after 6 or so months, I had had it. So I watched Woot for about a month and picked up an older version for a lot less than a new one. Plus it came with an extra set of brushes, the special pet brushes and 2 virtual walls. It's a lot bigger than I was expecting -- I'm not sure why I thought they were smaller. But it gets up everything that would take me forever to do as I hate sweeping. And I can do other stuff while it works (like dishes *sigh*).
My other purchases? A peg swift and ball winder. The peg swift is all devillibrarian's fault. When I said I wanted one, she mentioned a place on Etsy that had them at a reasonable price. I took a look and then did some searching. I acknowledge I could have made one myself if I had brought a saw and the necessary hardware and wood as it has a very simple construction. But it was worth the non-hassle to just buy one because it was 1/2 what other places sell them. Of course the freakin' Post Office practically destroyed the box it arrived in. Which meant it arrived without the dowels. Kind of hard to use without the dowels. The store, oddly enough is called The Knit Store, was nice enough to send me another set which forever places them on my Awesome List.
And once I had a swift I had to have a ball winder. And as I had to buy the crochet thread I wanted online, I went ahead and added a ball winder to the order (plus it was on sale! ;o). The ball winder arrived yesterday and I promptly tested them out. There are some quirks I'll have to remember but overall I'm extremely happy with my purchases. I plan to make a pair of bed socks with that ball as it's yummy alpaca . . .
