Slacker? Who me? :o)
Work
* So tomorrow's the election. From a work perspective and a news perspective, I cannot wait until it's over. The good news? My manager is ordering Italian for lunch/dinner from this place that's suppose to be really really good. And since my group isn't doing the election night reporting piece, I can go home at 8p (we will ignore the fact I will likely be at work for 12-13 hours at that point).
* My manager keeps saying there's life after November. To that end, I have the opportunity to help with the data standards and management responsibilities the agency was tasked with upon creation. So I should be reading documentation for the meeting tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to this even though I haven't much experience with any of it.
* Otherwise work is work and it will do for the time being.
House
* So there were 3 weeks of doing stuff at the house (e.g., painting the living room, hallway, master bedroom, utility room and some other ceilings; having Dad change out the electrical sockets and light switches everywhere; helping Dad put sheet rock over the beyond awful ceiling tiles in the dining room).
* I started moving stuff over the weekend of October 18 and Diamond & I started sleeping over there. I finished packing stuff October 25 and the moving company moved the remaining stuff October 30. It's a relief to be done with the moving.
* This weekend's activities? Gave the front yard a final haircut before the winter, arranged the furniture in the living room, painted the living room windows, and put up curtains in the living room. The living room looks pretty spiffy if I don't mind saying so myself even though I need to make a decision about the curtain on the small window.
* Painting the windows and trim, hanging curtains, and arranging furniture in the master bedroom is next on the list.
* I love my house. Which is good as I pretty much went with the best of the available options.
* The house is across from an elementary school. Of course it's a polling place. I just hope no one blocks my driveway as I'll likely be in a not-so-nice mood at the point I get home.
Other Stuff
* I voted absentee a few weekends ago (see aforementioned 12-13 hour day above) so that's one thing out the way.
* For some reason or another, I happened to go to Bitter:Sweet's website and saw they had a new album, which I of course had to have. I think I like the first one better but it's still good.
* Of course I now have 17 downloads to use up by November 22 on eMusic.com. Decisions decisions.
* I haven't made any progress on craft stuff lately as the house has sucked up all my time. I have one more Christmas gift to make so I'll have to start making time for it.
From uncagedbird:
Your final score was 81/180
Birthday Party DJ (73-108 points)
You are a rabid consumer of music. You get a rush every time you hear something new but remain faithful to those artists you love. Your music collection represents who you are and what you care about and your home may even bear the tell-tale signs of your affections – posters, old band t-shirts and the odd music biography. But you aren't a completist, you know what you like and make sure you have it. Simple as that. To expand your repertoire, perhaps there are some genres that you'd benefit from giving a little more attention to – perhaps now is the time to hear something new or get hold of that missing album from your collection.
Oddly enough it's true . . . I ignore my tv and keep the radio on most days . . .

Do you own all the albums of any particular musical artist or group? Who?

At one point I did for Garth Brooks but that was because I got the 6-cd box set for my birthday. Hmm . . . I think Barenaked Ladies, OK Go, Gorillaz and 2ge+her are the only ones. I'm not sure about Paula Abdul, TLC & En Vouge and I'm too lazy to check . . .
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.
Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Last night I saw Stefan Engels perform at a School of Music concert. I was expecting a discount on the ticket for being faculty, but it was free which was even better. I had been looking forward to the concert all year just to hear the beautiful organ being played and was not disappointed by the playing or the organ.
Last semester I went to most of the major group concerts plus the flute/guitar recital. While I will definitely go to the flute/guitar recital again, I don't think I'm going to make it to most of the others this time around due to other stuff I'd like to do and the amount of time it takes to get downtown and back from home.
So I've been taking flute lessons for a month now and am enjoying greatly even though there's so much to remember to do (e.g., holding the flute correctly, blowing, fingering, tonguing, reading the music, etc.). We're basically walking our way through the Suzuki method book with a few extras (like scales) thrown in. I'm finishing up Twinkle Twinkle Little Star this week. While piano in college was interesting, I think the flute fits me much better. I also finally got around to ordering a portable music stand . . . my makeshift stand just isn't cutting it now . . .

The story:
I decided to warm milk in the microwave for my hot chocolate. When retrieving the warm milk, I was very surprised to see a tiny spider in the microwave. It seemed to have survived being microwaved for 1:30 minutes. However, I decided it could not live. With my luck, the microwaves would cause it to grow to enormous porportations, it would spin a web, and my cat would get caught in the web ('cause she's nosy). Only with the help of an attractive guy that everyone says is nuts would we survive and in doing so fall madly in love. It would be the ultimate science fiction B movie. I deserve better than a science fiction B movie -- I rank at least an A- movie so the spider had to go . . .
The song:
There's a spider in my room
There's a spider in my room
And then a voice above my head
Said if that spider were made dead
I'd better grow some fins 'cause
It would make it easier to swim
I don't like spiders and snakes
The way they crawl, the way they shake
If a spider gets killed how does that make it rain
How could I be the one to blame
A whisper drizzled down from the ice in its eyes
it said, "Try pickin' on your own damn size,"
But the Hoover was quick, termination complete
In its bedroom home got a chance to eat.
In the corner beside my bed
Very busy spinning thread
Eight legs and a little head
I hear the thunder from outside
And the water's gettin' high
I don't like moths and bugs
They buzz, they get in the rugs
But where does a guy find some room
in this life raft home, a little rubber tomb
There's a spider in my room
There's a spider in my room

What song makes you rock the karaoke mic?
Submitted by Ann.
I've only done karaoke in public twice. I know I did a duet "Does He Love You?" with a friend of a friend the first time along with one or two other songs. The second time was "The Lions Sleeps Tonight" which was much fun.
