Where do you get recommendations for new books to read?
If I get a recommendation it's likely from friends. Otherwise I'm a browser . . .
I've always have been a nerd. More specifically, a classic book nerd. I was usually one of the people who screwed up the curve in school. And it was unusual to see me without a book esp. in high school. Thanks to slytherinlibrarian I even have a t-shirt that says Book Nerd (which was appropriately appreciated at ALA this year).
So yesterday the idea popped that's what my license plate should be. Why? No idea. But it will arrive in 4 or so weeks. :o)
A fun little book meme I "borrowed" from Fattypants . . . I also left off the tag part so go for it if you're interested . . .
1. One book that changed your life: Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams. It was the book that led me to the Science Fiction/Fantasy section of the library and I haven't looked back since . . .
2. One book that you’ve read more than once: If I like a book, I'm very likely to read it more than once. So a randomly picked one is The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery . . .
3. One book you’d want on a desert island: Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy (and yes it counts as one book . . .)
4. One book that made you laugh: I thought Waltz with a Vampire by Maggie MacKeever was quite funny . . .
5. One book that made you cry: Most recently Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.R. Rowling (lots of sobbing there . . .)
6. One book that you wish you had written: I've never had any interest in writing but if I did, I would hope it would be something like Moira Moore's Resenting the Hero
7. One book that you wish had never been written: Nothing comes to mind as I tend to avoid books I know I'll hate and I can't say I wish something had never been written without reading it first.
8. One book you’re currently reading: I'm currently between books. My current library pile includes The Mislaid Magician by Patricia Wrede & Caroline Stevermer, Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Julia Quinn, Scent of Darkness by Christina Dodd and The Top 10 Myths About Evolution by Cameron McPherson Smith and Charles Sullivan.
9. One book you’ve been meaning to read: I have a whole list. At the top of it is probably Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman . . . I just haven't gotten around to it even though I do own it . . .
to say I finished with Deathly Hallows about a half hour ago . . .
Mardigian Library to remove all books; students won't notice
My favorite part:
Aside from making students more comfortable with the library, the book removal has had a positive influence on the library's staff, said Richards. "The changes have really improved morale, the librarians are much happier now," he said. The truth of Richards' statement was attested to by two giggling librarians chasing each other around an unused microfilm reader, while another stood atop the circulation desk giving a rousing a capella rendition of "Fergalicious" as appreciative students looked on.
Although the response to the changes has been mostly positive, Richards explained that there was some initial hesitance on the part of some faculty members. "Yeah, a couple of the professors weren't down, they wanted to make waves. It was cool, though. I just had to let them know what's up," said the former Navy Seal, cracking his knuckles menacingly.

Kat with a K sent me this most amusing Application for Employment as Romance Novel Heroine . . . it summarizes 90% of the Regency romance novels I've read and loved . . .
What are five books that changed your life?
Inspired by Ms. Genevieve.
While many books have touch my life over the years, these three had the biggest impact on my current reading preferences . . .
- Douglas Adams - The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
In 10th grade, the public library had it on a young adult display for humor books and I picked it up. I loved it and when I realized it was the 2nd book in the series, I made my first trip to the SF/F section and haven't looked back since. - Neil Gaiman & Terry Prachett - Good Omens
The first Neil Gaiman book I read that started me on what could be termed as a "slight obsession." - Judith McNaught - Perfect
I think this was the first "regular" romance novel I read. I do know due to it I read JM's other books which led to my love for historical/Regency romances.
How do you pass the time during a flight? What do you bring in your carry-on?
80% of the time I read a book. Otherwise I crochet or sleep . . .
My carry-on has things that I don't want to check (e.g., my camera), snacks, a couple books, and a bottle of water.
Following Jp's lead (and to test out this group thing) . . .
